Bianca '16 Wins at Mt SAC Cross Country Invitational

10/20/2011
On October 14th, 2011, five-hundred and forty-four 8th grade girls, from all over the Southern California region of the the United States, converge at the historic and fabled cross-country course at Mount San Antonio College for the 64th Annual Middle School Cross Country Invitational, sponsored by the Puma Shoe Company.

The 8th grade girls middle school races were divided into three heats, based on school enrollment and team size. Each heat was comprised of over 170 girls, representing seventy-six middle schools, all running for the coveted "cow bell", which is given to the winner of each respective heat. Commemorative medals were given to the first fifteen finishers of each heat.

Organizers, modified the original two mile cross country course to 1.2 miles, the morning of the race, to prevent dehydration and heat exhaustion issues, as runners faced temperatures that exceeded 85 degrees at race time. Although the course was shortened, the course included varied terrains, switchbacks, near vertical inclines and epic down hills.

As the lone representative of Marlborough School, Bianca '16 was set to run in heat 2, and took on one hundred and seventy-four girls, representing twenty various middle schools. Bianca finished first in her heat, capturing the "cow bell" and completed race in an impressive 8:42 minutes. Out of 533 runners who completed the race, Bianca '16 finished tied for 8th, overall.
